Electric vehicle battery reuse for building energy storage
The batteries of thousands electric vehicles age with mileage. When it comes to intensive use of EV’s their battery capacity degrade in few years from 10 to 40 percent. On the market, there are already available replacement or damaged Li-ion batteries, what makes possible to reuse them in close zero-energy buildings and in cost effective energy storages of microgrids. In close future residential solar energy solutions will be working with smart energy storage units, what will make whole process more efficient, reliable and sustainable.
Why not to find out some demounted Li-ion battery secrets to get information from its Battery Management System, what is its control block. The information like real voltages, currents and State Of Charge of battery can be saved to computer or microcontroller and then sent to Programmable Logic Controller. By using this information the experimental charging and discharging can be done . With this short experimental research we can get very necessary data, what will be used in making of control algorithms for controller of energy storage unit. With this research the cost of future energy saving unit can be reduces and respectively making it more competitive.
The data in Battery Management System communication will be gathered and processed by microcontroller like Arduino or Raspberry PI. Then it will be transferred my popular com-bus to smart energy storage controller. In this prototype development further disassembly car battery wont be required for usage in stationary energy storage.
