Overview of TehnoHack 2016

Overview of TehnoHack 2016

One of the biggest Baltic hardware hackathons brought together innovative idea authors with hardware and software engineers. The goal was to build a functional device from the idea during a weekend – is it a minidrone, smart birdnest or something else. Each idea got 3 to 8 member team, who needed to build the first protoype. In total over 50 ideas were submitted of which 22 were built during a weekend. Almost 140 persons participated in building and more than 160 persons from 11 countries took in one or another way part of the event. Almost all teams achieved their goals. Lots of new skills were studied and loads of new contacts aquired. All participants were able to use help of Skeemipesa’s mentors and TUT Mektory center laboratories’ wonderful capabilities.

Direct access to Prototron TOP40: Power Cost Tutor and Using ultra-capacitors for covering energy peaks

Power Cost Tutor
Team: Maido Märss, Peeter Salu, Karl Kongas, Kaspar Pae, Martin Roht, Marek Joost
Description: Home owners, who have installed solar panels or wind turbine often do not realize, when their household consumes energy and when it is manufacturing electricity. Power Cost Tutor decides itself when it makes sense to start electrical appliances based on energy production statistics and energy price information downloaded from electricity stock market. Read more.

Using ultra-capacitors for covering energy peaks:
Team: Urmas Mägi, Silver Annuk, Toomas Kalju, Martin Raadik, Indrek Roasto, Hardi Hõimoja.
Description: Manufacturing processes use often machines with powerful electrical motors. Machines’ working cycles depend on manufacturing process, but they often create largest power consumption during start-up, while majority of time energy consumption is low. The idea is to use ultra-capacitors for energy need covering during startup and lower electricity bills. Read more.tehnohack-2016-299
